Dr. Eugene Geist is an associate professor in the Patton College of Education. He holds the B.A. in History and a MEd in Child Development and Early Childhood Education from the University of Cincinnati. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Early Child Development and Education with a specialization in Piaget’s constructivism. Dr. Geist has teaching responsibilities in the Early Childhood Education program and the Teacher Education Honors Program. His areas of expertise include child development, constructivism, and the development of mathematical knowledge in young children and using music with infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
He has experience running grants from AERA and the State of Ohio as well as being part of the FoodMASTER team which has been funded by the USDA and the NIH through a SEPA awards. Dr. Geist has also had a number of smaller internal grants from Ohio University.
